A draft decision has already been prepared and submitted to the government for approval, <a href=\"https:\/\/rus.lsm.lv\/statja\/novosti\/politika\/03.08.2026-mvd-predlagaet-zakryt-granicu-s-belarusyu-dlya-naseleniya-i-gruzovogo-transporta.a657313\/\">reports<\/a> LSM.<\/p>\n<p>Closing the border crossing would help safeguard the country&#8217;s territorial integrity, prevent threats to public order, and create more favorable conditions for border guards to combat illegal migration, the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>Latvia\u2019s Ministry of Interior stated that, amid migratory pressure from Belarus, an enhanced border security regime has been declared along the Latvian-Belarusian border. It said the operational border crossing provides \u201cgreater opportunities to conduct a prolonged hybrid warfare operation against Latvia\u201d and could also be used as \u201can additional tool for pressure, provocations and intelligence-related activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The P\u0101ternieki border crossing suspended operations on the evening of July 31.
