The State Customs Committee has opened a criminal case against a group of individuals in connection with a scheme to import new goods disguised as second-hand items. The scheme was used to reduce the amount of customs duties payable.<\/p>\n

According to the State Customs Committee, customs officers in Mahiliou uncovered a warehouse in the Minsk District where, over the course of a year, a Lithuanian carrier had delivered \u201cnew high-value goods that had been declared as used when imported into the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.\u201d<\/i> An expert examination confirmed that the goods were new.<\/p>\n

The goods were subsequently sold to business entities.<\/p>\n

A court has already ordered the confiscation of a batch of 4,000 items worth more than 700,000 Belarusian rubles. Another 12,500 items valued at 1 million Belarusian rubles have been seized pending the court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
