\u201cAs of today, we have managed to restore Kamunikat almost to the state it was in before the attack,\u201d<\/i> Yaraslau Ivaniuk<\/b> said during a meeting with readers at the Belarusian Solidarity Centre in Warsaw.<\/p>\n

The founder of the Belarusian online library and publisher admitted that he deliberately avoided making a public announcement in advance so as not to give hackers an opportunity to spoil the good news.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom today, the library is accessible, alive and functioning,\u201d<\/i> he said.<\/p>\n

Only a small number of files were lost permanently, mostly illustrations accompanying archived news items.<\/p>\n

As emphasized on the library\u2019s website<\/a>, following the attack the team strengthened security measures as much as possible. They \u201creviewed backup procedures, reinforced website protection and redesigned some processes so that the project would be more resilient to similar attacks in the future.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

The project also plans to launch a new website based on a modern platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most important task is to integrate the archives we have with it. But we will do it,\u201d<\/i> the creators said.<\/p>\n

On May 7, 2026, Kamunikat.org\u2019s server was subjected to a major attack that resulted in the deletion of all files collected over 25 years. The library has now been restored. The team and technical specialists worked on the recovery for more than a month.<\/p>\n

At the end of 2025, the Belarusian authorities designated the website\u2019s content as \u201cextremist materials.\u201d On March 3, 2026, the Belarusian KGB included Kamunikat in a non-existent \u201ccoalition of publishing houses\u201d and declared it an \u201cextremist formation.\u201d The May 7 attack on the resource can be viewed as part of broader political pressure on independent Belarusian cultural infrastructure.<\/p>\n
