{"id":546832,"date":"2026-05-30T11:55:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T08:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reform.news\/?p=546832"},"modified":"2026-05-30T13:29:33","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T10:29:33","slug":"russia-recalls-ambassador-from-armenia-for-consultations-amid-yerevan-s-eu-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/russia-recalls-ambassador-from-armenia-for-consultations-amid-yerevan-s-eu-course","title":{"rendered":"Russia Recalls Ambassador From Armenia for Consultations Amid Yerevan\u2019s EU Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Russia has summoned its ambassador to Armenia, <b>Sergey Kopyrkin<\/b>, to Moscow for consultations over steps taken by the Armenian leadership toward closer ties with the European Union that are harming cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Russian Foreign Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/mid.ru\/ru\/foreign_policy\/news\/2113404\/\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ambassador\u2019s recall followed the signing in Astana on May 29 of a <a href=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/kremlin-publishes-joint-eaeu-statement-on-armenia\">joint statement by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia<\/a>. In the document, the parties said Armenia\u2019s course toward EU membership poses \u201csignificant risks\u201d to the economic security of EAEU member states and supported holding a nationwide referendum in Armenia on a choice between the EU and the EAEU. The signatories also instructed officials to prepare by December a report on the possible consequences of suspending the application of the EAEU treaty with respect to Armenia.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Russian Energy Minister <strong>Sergey Tsivilyov<\/strong>\u00a0warned Yerevan about the possible termination of a 2013 agreement on duty-free supplies of gas, petroleum products and diamonds if Armenia continued its course toward joining the European Union.
