{"id":546203,"date":"2026-05-28T08:27:02","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T05:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reform.news\/?p=546203"},"modified":"2026-05-28T11:29:47","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T08:29:47","slug":"court-acquits-polish-soldier-in-case-over-shooting-at-belarus-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/court-acquits-polish-soldier-in-case-over-shooting-at-belarus-border","title":{"rendered":"Court Acquits Polish Soldier in Case Over Shooting at Belarus Border"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>A military court in Lublin found Polish serviceman <b>Karol S.<\/b> not guilty of exceeding his authority in a case involving gunfire at the border with Belarus.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors had <a href=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/polskogo-soldata-obvinjajut-v-prevyshenii-polnomochij-iz-za-strelby-na-granice-s-belarusju\">argued<\/a> that the soldier exceeded his authority on March 25, 2024, when near Dubicze Cerkiewne he fired 12 shots along a border road toward a group consisting of migrants who had illegally crossed the border, as well as Border Guard officers and other Polish army soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/tvpworld.com\/93496373\/polish-soldier-cleared-of-firing-illegally-on-belarus-border\">TVP<\/a>, Judge <b>Rados\u0142aw Hunek<\/b> rejected the prosecution\u2019s arguments that Karol S. lost his status as a soldier while serving under the authority of the Border Guard at the border. In the judge\u2019s opinion, the defendant remained a serviceman in this case. The judge also took into account the defense\u2019s argument that the soldier was a highly qualified marksman.
