The Interior Ministry held command-and-staff exercises in Mahiliou. Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou<\/b><\/strong> said there would be no repeat of the events of 2020 in Belarus and urged police officers to be prepared to use firearms.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the president said, there will be no repeat of the events of 2020 in the country. And this is the path we are following. That is why we are conducting such drills, checking the readiness of equipment, forces and resources, and personnel for action under special conditions. If anyone attempts to injure citizens, law enforcement officers or anyone involved in suppressing mass unrest, all means must be used, including firearms. We must be ready for this,\u201d<\/i><\/em> Kubrakou said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The exercises rehearsed scenarios involving changes in the operational situation in urban conditions. Interior Ministry officers trained in carrying out detentions in residential courtyards, preventing road blockades and stopping a bus carrying \u201cextremist-minded citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n
