This was reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/rus.lsm.lv\/statja\/novosti\/politika\/14.05.2026-pryamaya-translyaciya-evika-silinya-obyavila-ob-otstavke-specvypusk-novostei.a647083\/\">LSM<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cMy goal was clear \u2014 the development of the state, the well-being and security of the people, so that our children value their home, their country \u2014 Latvia! Parties and coalitions change, but Latvia remains, and people remain here.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Now political jealousy and narrow party interests have prevailed over responsibility. Having seen a strong candidate for the post of defence minister, political windbags chose a crisis \u2014 a government crisis.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Therefore, I declare that I am resigning. This is not an easy decision, but in the current situation it is an honest one. I am resigning, but I am not giving up and not leaving. The promises I made to the people of Latvia, to everyone with whom we defended European values together on Dome Square, will continue to be fulfilled by me and New Unity,\u201d<\/i> she said at a press conference.<\/p>\n<p>Sili\u0146a\u2019s resignation followed an incident involving drones entering Latvian territory from Russia. One of them crashed on the grounds of an oil depot in R\u0113zekne.<\/p>\n<p>Following the incident, Sili\u0146a dismissed Defence Minister <strong><b>Andris Spr\u016bds<\/b><\/strong>, who represented the Progressives party, and proposed appointing Colonel <strong><b>Raivis Melnis<\/b><\/strong> as his replacement.<\/p>\n<p>The Progressives later announced that they would no longer support Sili\u0146a.
