Pro-Russian activists managed to hold \u201cImmortal Regiment\u201d marches in regional Belarusian cities by joining their columns with the official \u201cBelarus Remembers\u201d processions. Russia\u2019s embassy in Belarus and branches of Rossotrudnichestvo reported on the events. Belarusian state propaganda outlets did not mention the \u201cImmortal Regiment\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n

In Hrodna, the joint column was led by Russian Consulate Counselor Gavriil Mamontov<\/b> and head of the \u201cRussian House\u201d Yulia Semenchenko<\/b>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn May 9, 2026, Hrodna became the center of large-scale patriotic unity. On the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, the combined columns of the \u2018Belarus Remembers\u2019 and \u2018Immortal Regiment\u2019 campaigns gathered an enormous number of participants. In the \u2018Immortal Regiment\u2019 column, compatriots carrying portraits of their grandfathers, grandmothers, and great-grandfathers marched together down Hrodna\u2019s main street.<\/i><\/p>\n

The procession was given special spirit by musical moments. An accordion played right in the column, and people joined in singing melodies familiar to everyone. \u2018Katyusha,\u2019 \u2018Smuglyanka,\u2019 \u2018Victory Day,\u2019 and \u2018In the Dugout\u2019 \u2014 these songs, sung in chorus by thousands of Hrodna residents, echoed over the Neman River. The live music united everyone \u2014 both those carrying portraits and those standing on the sidewalks,\u201d<\/i> the Hrodna \u201cRussian House\u201d said.<\/p>\n

In Vitsebsk, employees of the Russian embassy branch took part in a march held as part of the nationwide \u201cBelarus Remembers\u201d campaign, the Russian diplomatic mission reported.<\/p>\n

In Brest, the Russian Consulate General also reported on a combined column of the two campaigns.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Brest, participants of the \u2018Belarus Remembers. Remember Everyone\u2019 campaign and the \u2018Immortal Regiment,\u2019 along with numerous delegations, guests, and city residents, gathered in one column,\u201d<\/i> the Russian Consulate General in Brest stated.<\/p>\n

It was also claimed that \u201con May 9, thousands of residents and guests of Brest joined the festive procession of the \u2018Immortal Regiment\u2019 and the \u2018Belarus Remembers\u2019 campaign to celebrate Victory Day together.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

According to the Russian embassy in Belarus, the event in Mahilyou was attended by \u201cnot only city residents, but also guests arriving from the Russian capital.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

The \u201cImmortal Regiment\u201d also marched through the streets of Homiel. Employees of the Russian embassy branch and the Russian House in Homiel took part in the procession, led by its head Aleksandr Morzhukhin<\/b>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this unified flow, accompanied by military marches and the rhythmic step of the \u2018Immortal Regiment,\u2019 one feels incredible strength: we are the heirs of Victory, and we remember,\u201d<\/i> the Homiel \u201cRussian House\u201d stated.<\/p>\n

Sputnik Belarus published a video from Minsk with the caption: \u201cParticipants in the \u2018Immortal Regiment\u2019 campaign share memories of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War.\u201d<\/i> The footage shows two children laying flowers at the monument to Marat Kazey<\/b>, as well as three adults holding portraits of relatives and Joseph Stalin<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Earlier, pro-Russian activist Andrei Gerashchenko<\/b> appealed to the Belarusian authorities to allow \u201cImmortal Regiment\u201d marches in Belarusian cities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that the \u2018Immortal Regiment\u2019 march should become an element of the nationwide \u2018Belarus Remembers\u2019 campaign. Including separate \u2018Immortal Regiment\u2019 units within the \u2018Belarus Remembers\u2019 columns confirms the unity of Russia and Belarus, and of Russians and Belarusians, in celebrating Victory Day. The experience of such cooperation proved effective during the organization of festive events on May 9 in 2024 and 2025,\u201d<\/i> he said.<\/p>\n

A few days ago, it was reported that the Minsk City Executive Committee refused permission for an \u201cImmortal Regiment\u201d march in Minsk on May 9.<\/p>\n
