On May 23, Warsaw will host the presentation of a new book by Pavel Seviarynets<\/b>, \u201cBelarus Is Sacred.\u201d The publication brings together poems and drawings by the Belarusian politician, created while he was in detention.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis collection includes 71 drawings of Belarusian churches, which I drew in prisons and in the penal colony for Frantsishak until I was banned from sending them out, as well as 71 sayings and 22 poems.<\/em><\/p>\n

I had to memorise the poems, because in recent years letters containing poems were also not allowed out of prison. Most of these poems have not been published anywhere,\u201d<\/em> the author said about the book.<\/p>\n

Several years ago, Volha Seviarynets<\/b> told Viasna<\/a> how Pavel came up with the idea of drawing churches while in detention.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt first, Pavel drew cars and other vehicles for Frantsishak as a gift, because Frantsishak is very interested in this topic. Later, he decided to also \u2018cultivate a sense of beauty in his son\u2019 by drawing churches. People sent Pavel many postcards with Belarusian landscapes, and he redrew churches from them. When Pavel began drawing churches, we did not think we would turn them into postcards. The idea emerged naturally when we had collected a set of ten drawings of churches and Catholic temples. The postcards were received very warmly, with many positive responses and words of thanks.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Now the politician\u2019s drawings can be viewed under one cover.<\/p>\n

Pavel calls Warsaw the \u201cepicentre of the Belarusian movement\u201d and especially invites to the meeting his associates from the Belarusian Christian Democracy, those who wish to join the BCD, and all friends from social media to finally meet in person and \u201cde-virtualise.\u201d<\/p>\n
