Belarusians in Warsaw gathered at the Copernicus monument on the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy to commemorate the victims of the disaster and to remind of its consequences for Belarus and the world. According to information<\/a> from the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya<\/b><\/strong>, more than 100 people took part in the action.<\/p>\n

Among them were the leader of the Razam solidarity movement Vyachaslau Siuchyk<\/b><\/strong>, priest Vyachaslau Barok<\/b><\/strong>, deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet Pavel Latushka<\/b><\/strong>, adviser to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya Franak Viachorka<\/b><\/strong>, representative of the BNR Rada Aleksei Dzikavitski<\/b><\/strong>. The rally was hosted by musician Aliaksandr Pamidorau<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The rally began with the performance of the Belarusian, Ukrainian and Polish national anthems. After the rally, participants carrying posters with portraits of political prisoners and banners against the deployment of nuclear weapons marched to the monument to Maria Sk\u0142odowska-Curie<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we honour the victims of Chernobyl and all victims of the Lukashenka regime. As a result of the regime\u2019s actions, Belarus is facing the threat of losing its independence, and nuclear weapons have been deployed on its territory. Here in Warsaw, we have gathered to draw the world\u2019s attention to what is happening in Belarus today. We show that we have not surrendered, we have not accepted it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Today many statements of solidarity were voiced by the international community, politicians, officials and international organisations. Belarus remains in focus \u2014 this is important. I am glad that Chernobyl actions bring together civil organisations, politicians, cultural figures and diaspora initiatives. This is a shared tragedy that unites everyone\u201d<\/em>, Franak Viachorka said.<\/p>\n
