Belarusian security forces use extremism charges to persecute opponents of Lukashenka as well as dissent in general.<\/p>\n<p>According to the \u043f\u0440\u043e\u043a\u0443\u0440\u0430\u0442\u0443\u0440\u0430, its staff identified more than 130 social media channels in the first quarter that were allegedly aimed <em>\u201cat destabilising the socio-political and socio-economic situation in the country, as well as promoting protest activity\u201d<\/em>. Applications were filed with courts in these cases, after which the resources were added to the list of \u201cextremist materials\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn addition, as part of efforts to combat extremism, access to five internet resources was restricted by decisions of the Mahilyow Region prosecutor, where information prohibited for distribution had been published.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>For example, the resources \u2018Flagstok\u2019 and \u2018Glavk\u2019 contained materials previously recognised as extremist by court decisions, and also disseminated knowingly false information about the political situation in the Republic of Belarus and the legal status of its citizens,\u201d<\/em> the prosecutor\u2019s office added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mahilyow Region Prosecutor\u2019s Office has reported on its efforts to combat \u201cextremism\u201d in the first quarter.
