{"id":535700,"date":"2026-04-22T18:05:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T15:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reform.news\/?p=535700"},"modified":"2026-04-23T06:29:01","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T03:29:01","slug":"supreme-court-to-hear-appeal-in-honest-people-case-in-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/supreme-court-to-hear-appeal-in-honest-people-case-in-june","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court to Hear Appeal in \u201cHonest People\u201d Case in June"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>On June 2, the Supreme Court of Belarus will consider an appeal in the in absentia case of activists from the \u201cHonest People\u201d initiative \u2014 <b>Alena Zhylachkina (Zhyvahlod), Zaryna Sarokina, Aleh Davydchyk and Timafei Malakhouski<\/b>, the human rights centre &#8220;Viasna&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/viasna96\/34660\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The verdict in the case was delivered on January 22 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/up-to-10-years-in-prison-and-heavy-fines-in-absentia-verdict-delivered-in-the-honest-people-case\">Viciebsk Regional Court<\/a>. The activists were charged under several articles of the Criminal Code, including \u201cdiscrediting Belarus\u201d, \u201cinciting hatred\u201d, \u201cinsulting and defaming Lukashenka\u201d, as well as \u201ccalling for sanctions against the Republic of Belarus\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Alena Zhylachkina was sentenced to 10 years in a general-regime penal colony and fined 67,500 rubles. Zaryna Sarokina, Timafei Malakhouski and Aleh Davydchyk were each sentenced to 8 years in a penal colony and fined 40,500 rubles.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cHonest People\u201d initiative was established in 2020 to counter fraud in the presidential election. Its volunteers attempted to join precinct election commissions and acted as observers.
