Director of the Department of African, Asian and Oceanian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ahhad al-Salibi<\/strong>, met with Belarusian Ambassador to Damascus Yury Sluka<\/strong>, the Syrian agency SANA reported.<\/p>\n

“During the meeting, the sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries following the resumption of the Belarusian embassy\u2019s work in Damascus,”<\/em> the statement said.<\/p>\n

It should be recalled that the regime of Bashar al-Assad<\/strong> in Syria, which had closely cooperated with the authorities in Minsk, was overthrown in December 2024. The former president fled to Russia. Syria is currently governed by a transitional administration headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On January 23, 2025, on the instructions of Aliaksandr Lukashenka<\/strong>, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou<\/strong> visited Damascus<\/a> and met with the head of Syria\u2019s new administration Ahmed al-Sharaa and the head of the General Intelligence Service Anas Khattab<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
