On March 27 and 28, the first performances of the play \u201cMoja mi\u0142o\u015b\u0107\u201d (\u201cMy Love\u201d) \u2014 a joint work by Belarusian and Polish artists \u2014 took place in Krak\u00f3w. The production explores the nature of dictatorship and the ideology of the \u201cRussian world\u201d through the prism of the existence of the Queer community, which in Belarus today faces the threat of criminalization.<\/p>\n

Theatre as a Response to Repression<\/strong><\/p>\n

The idea for the play emerged in 2025 during the work of a Belarusian-Polish team at the \u201cSimple Words\u201d \u0434\u0440\u0430\u043c\u0430\u0442\u0443\u0440\u0433\u0438\u0447\u0435\u0441\u043a\u0430\u044f laboratory in Lublin, curated by Raman Pa\u016dlo\u016dski<\/b>. The starting point for the authors was the dramatic situation in Belarus, where a law is being prepared that would effectively ban any Queer symbolism \u2014 from clothing to works of art.<\/p>\n

The creators of the play set out to understand the reasons for the hatred that dictators such as Lukashenka<\/b> and Putin<\/b> feel toward the Queer community, because it is precisely this rejection of \u201cotherness\u201d that lies at the foundation of Russia\u2019s aggressive policy and its ideology.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Strength of the Weak\u201d and a Sense of Humor<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite its sharp subject matter, \u201cMoja mi\u0142o\u015b\u0107\u201d is not a documentary chronicle of suffering. The authors deliberately reject images of \u201cvictims.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important for us to show not victims, but, on the contrary, their strength. The theme of the play is the strength of the weak. And the strength of the weak is also a sense of humor. It is a funny play,\u201d<\/em> they note.<\/p>\n

At the center of the plot is the \u201cghost of a dictator,\u201d who cannot die and is always reborn in new forms, infecting society with dreams of collective violence. This ghost encounters a free Queer artist, and their clash turns into a strange bond of love and hatred. The authors propose looking at this conflict as a universal confrontation between totalitarianism and the free individual.<\/p>\n
