A ceremony to award medals of the United Transitional Cabinet to prominent figures of Belarusian civil society and culture took place at the Museum of Free Belarus in Warsaw.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year on March 25, we honor outstanding Belarusians who, through their actions and courage, strengthen our country. Sometimes quietly, unnoticed, sometimes at personal risk,\u201d<\/i> said head of the United Transitional Cabinet Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The Francysk Skaryna Medal was awarded to scholar and \u043e\u0431\u0449\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0435\u043d\u043d\u043e-\u043f\u043e\u043b\u0438\u0442\u0438\u0447\u0435\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439 \u0434\u0435\u044f\u0442\u0435\u043b\u044c, chancellor of the Belarusian Free University Aliaksandr Milinkevich<\/b>, the only democratic candidate in the 2006 presidential election. The award was received by his wife Inna Kulei<\/b>, as Milinkevich recently underwent a serious operation.<\/p>\n

The medal \u201cFor Productive Work for the Benefit of Belarus\u201d was awarded to the creator of the Nexta Telegram channel Stsiapan Putsila<\/b>. Among the other recipients were writer Sviatlana Kurs<\/b> (Eva Vie\u017enaviec<\/b>), actress Kryscina Drobysh<\/strong>, and actor Ihar Sigau<\/b> (the award was received by his wife Valeryia<\/b>).<\/p>\n

Tsikhanouskaya also separately noted a posthumous award for journalist and blogger Mikita Melkaziorau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis unexpected and unjust passing shocked us all. But it is inspiring how much he managed to accomplish as a journalist and promoter of Belarusian culture,\u201d<\/i> she said.<\/p>\n

The ceremony concluded with words from writer Sviatlana Kurs: \u201cBelarus will soon become free and happy.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
