{"id":528675,"date":"2026-03-26T16:20:59","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T13:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reform.news\/?p=528675"},"modified":"2026-03-26T16:28:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T13:28:40","slug":"tsikhanouskaya-on-latypau-suicide-attempt-this-cruelty-must-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/tsikhanouskaya-on-latypau-suicide-attempt-this-cruelty-must-end","title":{"rendered":"Tsikhanouskaya On Latypau Suicide Attempt: This Cruelty Must End"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><b>Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya<\/b> has commented on reports of a third suicide attempt by political prisoner <b>Stsiapan Latypau<\/b> and called for the release of all political prisoners.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cPolitical prisoner Stsiapan Latypau attempted suicide for the third time in 2025, according to human rights defenders.<br \/>\nAfter being placed in isolation and punishment cells under constant pressure, he cut his veins.<br \/>\nThis cruelty must end \u2014 all political prisoners must be freed,\u201d<\/i> the democratic forces leader said on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Tsihanouskaya\/status\/2037153517295542311?s=20\">X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the human rights center Viasna, in July 2025 Latypau was transferred from <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mahilyou<\/span> Prison No. 4 to Correctional Colony No. 22 \u201cVolchyye Nory,\u201d where he was immediately placed in a punishment cell and then in a cell-type facility. There, he cut his veins and later received stitches. It is known that during his imprisonment he had requested solitary confinement.<\/p>\n<p>Latypau first attempted suicide in the summer of 2021 in a courtroom by stabbing himself in the neck with a pen. After surgery, he was placed in Pre-Trial Detention Center No. 1.<\/p>\n<p>In the colony, Latypau faced pressure from the administration \u2014 he was repeatedly placed in punishment cells and a cell-type facility. In protest, he swallowed a razor blade and again cut his veins. After that, in the autumn of 2022, his detention regime was changed, and he was transferred for two years to <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mahilyou<\/span> Prison No. 4.<\/p>\n<p>Stsiapan Latypau is an arborist and a resident of the \u201cSquare of Changes.\u201d He was detained in September 2020, sentenced to 8.5 years in a high-security colony, and fined 300 base units. He was accused of creating a neighborhood Telegram chat, organizing a workshop producing protest symbols, and resisting police officers. Additionally, as director of the company Belarbo, he was found guilty of fraud.
