The Belarusian Association of Former Political Prisoners \u201cDaVoli\u201d has launched a fundraiser to prepare a large-scale celebration of the 108th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People\u2019s Republic in Warsaw. To give the event \u043e\u0441\u043e\u0431\u044b\u0439 \u043c\u0430\u0441\u0448\u0442\u0430\u0431, organisers plan to bring back the legendary 330-metre flag, which now requires complex restoration and industrial cleaning.<\/p>\n

A Symbol Weighing Tons<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 330-metre white-red-white flag is a key symbol of Belarusian marches in Warsaw. However, after years of use, it now needs serious restoration. Organisers explain that it cannot be cleaned manually, as the weight of the wet fabric of such size is measured in tonnes.<\/p>\n

“For our large flag to once again rise during the celebration in Warsaw \u2014 visible from afar and understood by everyone \u2014 special equipment and resources are needed,”<\/i> the statement says.<\/p>\n

Part of the funds will go toward restoring the flag, while the rest will cover installation, rental of technical equipment, sound systems, and banner production.<\/p>\n

Who Is Organising the Event?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The preparations are being led by the Belarusian Association of Former Political Prisoners \u201cDaVoli\u201d \u2014 a community of people who have experienced imprisonment and persecution but remained resilient.<\/p>\n

“We know the price of freedom and work to support those who are fighting for it today,”<\/i> the organisers say.<\/p>\n

“Today, when the celebration is banned inside the country, it is our duty to ensure that the voice of Belarusians is heard worldwide,”<\/i> the association emphasises.<\/p>\n

Programme for March 28<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s programme includes a large march through the city starting from Plac Trzech Krzy\u017cy, as well as a major concert by Belarusian musicians at Plac Zamkowy.<\/p>\n

Plac Zamkowy \u2014 large concert featuring Belarusian musicians, speeches by politicians and activists.<\/p>\n

A festive fair will also take place, where visitors can buy crafts by Belarusian artisans, books, and try the well-known “draniki from political prisoners.”<\/p>\n
