{"id":527354,"date":"2026-03-20T17:03:19","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T14:03:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reform.news\/?p=527354"},"modified":"2026-03-20T18:11:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T15:11:51","slug":"polish-court-sentences-man-in-case-of-attack-on-pavel-latushka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/polish-court-sentences-man-in-case-of-attack-on-pavel-latushka","title":{"rendered":"Polish Court Sentences Man in Case of Attack on Pavel Latushka"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>A district court in Warsaw-\u015ar\u00f3dmie\u015bcie on March 5 delivered a verdict in the case of an attack on <b>Pavel Latushka<\/b> in July 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Yauhen Kazantseu was found guilty under two articles of the Polish Criminal Code: Part 1 of Article 212 (defamation) and Part 1 of Article 217 (violation of physical integrity), Latushka reported on his Telegram channel.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, separate penalties were imposed for each offense: a fine of 50 daily rates of 40 zlotys each for defamation and 100 daily rates of 40 zlotys each for the assault.<\/p>\n<p>Under Polish law, the penalties were combined. As a result, Kazantseu received a fine of 150 daily rates of 40 zlotys each (6,000 zlotys, or about $1,620).<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the court ordered him to pay 4,365.7 zlotys (about $1,178) in court costs to the state.<\/p>\n<p>All of these amounts must be paid to the Polish state budget.<\/p>\n<p>Yauhen Kazantseu studied at the University of Warsaw. On July 2, during a lecture marking the 35th anniversary of the East European Institute at the university, he threw a trash bin at Latushka while shouting insults such as <i>&#8220;traitor,&#8221; &#8220;shame,&#8221; &#8220;murderer,&#8221;<\/i> and claiming that Latushka had allegedly <i>&#8220;wanted to burn the entire opposition.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Immediately after the attack, Kazantseu told a Reform.news journalist about his motives. He said his visa had expired, that he had &#8220;burned out,&#8221; and had failed to defend his academic thesis.
