Ukraine\u2019s Security Service (SBU) has reported the detention of an agent who simultaneously worked for Russia\u2019s FSB and the intelligence service of Belarus\u2019s State Border Committee. The operation was carried out by the SBU\u2019s military counterintelligence with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces.<\/p>\n

The detainee is a serviceman from a unit of the Unmanned Systems Forces. Serving as a drone operator, he passed on data about the directions of movement and the number of drones used in combat in Ukraine\u2019s north-eastern border areas.<\/p>\n

Later, on instructions from his handlers, he transferred to a position as an operator of ground-based robotic systems used for evacuating the wounded and delivering ammunition in the Izium direction. There, instead of carrying out his duties, he began collecting data on the deployment and operational plans of neighbouring units, as well as accumulating information on the characteristics and use of new robotic systems.<\/p>\n

“After completing his intelligence tasks, the suspect planned to flee to Russia across the front line, where he was to be met by Russian special services. The SBU\u2019s military counterintelligence acted in advance and documented the agent\u2019s subversive activities,”<\/i> the SBU said.<\/p>\n

The man was detained in the Kharkiv region. Two smartphones containing evidence of his work for Russian and Belarusian special services were seized. He has been formally charged with high treason and placed in custody without the right to bail.<\/p>\n
