Widespread and systematic attacks on civilians must be met with a clear and consistently applied accountability mechanism \u2014 because accountability is not only justice for victims; it is deterrence for the future,<\/em>\u201d he wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BudrysKestutis\/status\/2032403867988595085?s=20\">X<\/a>, stating that those responsible must be brought to justice.<\/p>\n<p>It should be recalled that in September 2024 Lithuania submitted materials to the International Criminal Court on cross-border crimes against humanity committed by Lukashenka against Belarusians.<\/p>\n<p>Lithuania asked the court to investigate crimes committed in Belarus, which is not a state party to the ICC, pointing out that part of them were carried out on the territory of Lithuania, an ICC member state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lithuanian Foreign Minister K\u0119stutis Budrys welcomed the decision of the Prosecutor\u2019s Office of the International Criminal Court to open an investigation into crimes against humanity committed by Lukashenka\u2019s regime against the Belarusian people. \u201cNo regime should believe it can torture, deport, persecute, or silence its opponents and citizens without consequences.
