The leader of the democratic forces thanked Latvia for its consistent support for Belarusians and democratic forces, solidarity on the issue of political prisoners, its contribution to the International Humanitarian Fund and its principled position toward the Lukashenka regime.<\/p>\n<p>The sides discussed the need to maintain and strengthen pressure on the regime through sanctions policy and the closing of sanction-evasion schemes, humanitarian support for released political prisoners, Belarus\u2019s role in Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine, international coordination within the Nordic-Baltic Eight format and at UN platforms, as well as support for the Belarusian diaspora, national identity and the Belarusian language in Latvia.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cIt is very important for us to feel that Latvia stands alongside us \u2014 both in supporting political prisoners and in our shared work for security in the region.
