The award ceremony took place on Friday in Krak\u00f3w during the inauguration of the Year of Andrzej Wajda on the 100th anniversary of the Polish film director\u2019s birth, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) noted.<\/p>\n<p>By decision of the Senate of Poland, Wajda was named the patron of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The prize was presented by the Speaker of the upper house of the Polish parliament, <strong>Ma\u0142gorzata Kidawa-B\u0142o\u0144ska<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cDuring the ceremony Ma\u0142gorzata Kidawa-B\u0142o\u0144ska presented the Andrzej Wajda Prize to <strong>Danuta Wa\u0142\u0119sa<\/strong> (the wife of former Polish president Lech Wa\u0142\u0119sa \u2014 ed.) and Andrzej Poczobut. They received the awards for their work in the spirit of social solidarity, dialogue and care for the community \u2014 values especially dear to the director.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><em>The decision emphasized that Danuta Wa\u0142\u0119sa is \u2018a symbol of strength, courage and quiet determination in the face of historical challenges,\u2019 while Andrzej Poczobut \u2018for many years has been a symbol of the unwavering struggle for truth, human rights and freedom of speech,\u2019\u201d<\/em> the Senate of Poland said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senat.gov.pl\/aktualnoscilista\/art,17399,inauguracja-roku-andrzeja-wajdy.html\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The prize on behalf of Andrzej Poczobut was accepted by his daughter Jana.<\/p>\n<p>The Andrzej Wajda Prize has been awarded since 2018. It was established by the Kyoto-Krak\u00f3w Foundation of Andrzej Wajda and Krystyna Zachwatowicz. The prize is awarded for outstanding work in the spirit of social solidarity.
