The Security Service of Ukraine has demonstrated debris of the ballistic missile that Russia used to attack the Lviv region during the night of 8\u20139 January.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to preliminary information, the components found belong to the Oreshnik missile system,\u201d<\/i> the SBU press service said.<\/p>\n

Among the discovered parts are a stabilization and guidance unit, components of the propulsion system, fragments of the orientation mechanism, and a nozzle from the post-boost vehicle platform.<\/p>\n

The debris has been designated as physical evidence and is being prepared for in-depth examination, the SBU noted.<\/p>\n

SBU investigators classify the use of this missile against Ukraine\u2019s civilian infrastructure as a war crime committed by Russia. Preliminary findings indicate that the launch of the medium-range Oreshnik surface-to-surface missile was carried out from the Russian Kapustin Yar test range.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy attacking civilian targets in our state near the border with the European Union, the Kremlin sought to destroy the region\u2019s life-support infrastructure amid a sharp deterioration in weather conditions,\u201d<\/i> the SBU stated.<\/p>\n

Investigators are establishing all circumstances, as well as the organizers and perpetrators of this war crime by the Russian Federation, with the aim of bringing them to justice. The pre-trial investigation under Article 438 of Ukraine\u2019s Criminal Code (war crimes) continues. The proceedings are being conducted under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n

Earlier today, Russia\u2019s Defence Ministry claimed an Oreshnik strike on Ukraine. The target was an object in the Lviv region.<\/p>\n
