The leader of the democratic forces arrived at the event at the invitation of Venezuelan opposition leader and defender of democracy <b>Mar\u00eda Corina Machado<\/b>, who received the award for her longstanding struggle for freedom and human rights in her country.<\/p>\n<p>Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that Machado\u2019s work is important not only for Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cShe reminds all of us that resistance to dictatorship is a shared, global task,\u201d<\/i> she noted.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cWe in Belarus are walking the same path \u2014 through repression, fear, and violence. And today we remember <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ales Bialiatski<\/span>, our Nobel laureate, who remains behind bars. We continue to fight for him and for all Belarusian political prisoners. Today we honor everyone who does not give up, who keeps fighting, who believes in freedom, democracy, and peace. I believe that truth will prevail.
