Dzmitry Nestsiarovich was appointed head of Penal Colony No. 22 in Ivatsevichy as of September 1, Mayday.Team reports. He previously served as deputy head for the correctional process at Penal Colony No. 14, a maximum-security facility located in the village of Navasady, Barysau District.
Nestsiarovich served with the rank of lieutenant colonel of the internal service. At his previous place of work, he oversaw remote theological courses for prisoners and video conferences between inmates and their children. A project in which prisoners read books to children was carried out jointly with the Barysau library.
Nestsiarovich also organized video streams for schoolchildren, during which inmates convicted of drug offenses told teenagers about the consequences of drug use.
The previous head of Penal Colony No. 22, Viktar Sviryd, retired on July 24 after reaching the age of 50. Until Nestsiarovich was appointed, the duties of the prison head were temporarily performed by his deputy, Aliaksandr Shelest, but he was not permanently appointed to the position.
