Pro-Russian activist from Vitsyebsk Elvira Mirsalimova complained that not everyone welcomed the distribution of St. George ribbons on May 9 with enthusiasm. On her Telegram channel, she published several videos showing a man with a portrait of Stalin handing out ribbons to children, but in one of the videos things did not go as planned.
“Handsome men in uniform were gladly taking our Guards St. George ribbons,” she wrote. “The children would have taken the St. George ribbons too, if the ‘educators’ had not interfered.”
In one of the videos, women approached the pro-Russian activists, who were insistently offering ribbons, and said that the ribbons “did not match the uniform.”
“No-no-no, the ribbons do not match our uniform.”
“How can that be? Didn’t we fight in the same war?” the man replied indignantly.
“We did fight, I’m not arguing, but we have different symbols,” came the response.
“I’ll tell you this, guys, today some representatives of the official establishment were very aggressive and tried to prevent us from distributing St. George ribbons. I had never seen that before,” Mirsalimova said.
It should be recalled that last year Alyaksandr Lukashenka twice justified the absence of St. George ribbons in Belarus — before Vladimir Putin and Russia’s ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov.
