Valiantsina Hayavaya, founder and longtime director of the Kharoshki choreographic ensemble, has died. She was 90.
Since 1974, Hayavaya had served as artistic director and chief choreographer of the Kharoshki ensemble. Under her leadership, the company created productions based on Belarusian folklore, folk music and choreographic traditions. Over more than 50 years of working with the ensemble, she created dozens of original programs, including “The Turau Legend,” “The Polatsk Notebook,” “Tsiareshka’s Wedding,” “Valachebniki,” “Small-Town Waltz,” as well as the dances “Mitus,” “Tanok,” “Krosny” and others.
In 1989, Hayavaya was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the Belarusian SSR.
The date and place of the farewell ceremony for Valiantsina Hayavaya have not yet been announced.
