Emergency workers responded to a report of a urea-ammonium mixture leak at a facility in Hantsavichy. The mixture was leaking from one metal tank. A second tank had been depressurized and deformed.
Rescuers restored the containment berm to prevent further spillage and arranged for the leaked mixture to be collected in special containers. Sprayed water jets were used to reduce the concentration of ammonia evaporating into the air. Specialists also measured the concentration of the mixture’s vapors. As the Emergency Situations Ministry’s press service reported, no levels exceeding permissible limits were recorded outside the containment area.
A commission for emergency situations under the Hantsavichy District Executive Committee has been established at the site of the incident. Six units of Emergency Situations Ministry equipment were involved in dealing with the aftermath, including personnel from the Pinsk Center of the Republican Special Operations Detachment “ZUBR.”
