Belarusian writer Uladzimir Arlou, with his prose book “Dances Above the City. Three Stories” (translated by Bohdan Zadura), has become one of seven finalists for the prestigious Polish Angelus Central European Literature Award 2026.
The finalists are Uladzimir Arlou (Belarus), Serhiy Zhadan (Ukraine), Georgi Gospodinov (Bulgaria), Yuliia Iliukha (Ukraine), Milena Marković (Serbia), Kateřina Tučková (Czech Republic), and Joanna Czech (Poland).
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Wrocław on October 17. The event will be part of the Bruno Schulz Festival, which will include readings of excerpts from the nominated works and a discussion with translators, among other events.
The winner will receive a prize of PLN 150,000, making Angelus the highest-value literary award presented in Poland in financial terms. In addition, prizes of PLN 5,000 will be awarded to all authors whose books made the final.
The award is presented for works of prose translated into Polish by writers from Central European countries.
