Russian forces are using relays in Belarus that amplify signals and allow them to control drones hundreds of kilometers from their control stations. This was stated by Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, in an interview with 24 Kanal.
According to him, Belarus continues to facilitate Russian airstrikes against Ukraine. Equipment for transmitting and amplifying signals has been deployed on its territory. Demchenko said that Shahed and Geran-type drones heading toward Ukraine’s western regions and the border area with Poland receive additional signal amplification from Belarusian territory.
Demchenko noted that Belarus activates the relays only periodically. The number of mobile relays deployed on its territory has also increased significantly, he said.
“Belarus fears that Ukraine will be able to determine exactly where the relays are operating. We are often asked whether Belarus is building up its forces near our border. Apparently, they are still afraid of suffering heavy losses. So, under pressure from Russia, they have chosen this particular way of providing assistance through relays,” Demchenko said.
According to the Ukrainian border guard service spokesperson, Ukraine is working to ensure that Russian relays on Belarusian territory stop functioning.
