Ukraine and Russia’s Alert Systems Targeted in Cyberattack

The alert systems of Ukraine and Russia were targeted in a cyberattack. On November 1, Ukraine’s “Povitriana Tryvoha” app began sending warnings about a radiation hazard, a nuclear and chemical threat, and strikes involving the “Oreshnik” missile.

At around 1 a.m., Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the nationwide alert system was operating normally and that its functioning had been restored.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry app was targeted in a similar attack. It was used to warn Russians about the threat of a nuclear strike.

“The mobile application of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations was subjected to a massive cyberattack, as a result of which the perpetrators managed to distribute false information to the public”, the Russian ministry said.
