Two More Lithuanian Border Guards Detained Over Suspected Involvement in Cigarette Smuggling

Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service reported the detention of two junior officers from the Varėna Border Guard Unit. They were detained while off duty.

The border guards were detained as part of an investigation into the illegal sale of excise goods and abuse of office. Both officers have been charged with abuse of office. No details of the case have been disclosed.

This year, 13 border guards have already been charged with crimes related to corruption.
