Two more countries are joining the International Humanitarian Fund, which provides support to Belarusians affected by repression. Tsikhanouskaya’s Office reported this.
Office Director in Vilnius Dzianis Kuchynski met with Norwegian Helsinki Committee Secretary General Berit Lindeman. The committee serves as the fund’s operator.
“The processing of contributions from two more countries is now being finalized. Their total amount will be around €200,000,” the statement said.
The countries that will join the fund were not specified, but the total number of participating countries will reach 15. The statement noted that several countries have made additional contributions, including Iceland, Estonia and Norway. Negotiations are underway with Finland and Spain on new contributions. More than €3 million was allocated to the fund in 2024-26.
Kuchynski and Lindeman discussed the fund’s status and the use of the money received. Most of the contributions received earlier have already been allocated to helping people affected by repression, including political prisoners released over the past year.
The next goal is to increase the number of participating countries to 18-20 by the end of the year. This is necessary to ensure that the fund can not only respond to current requests but also maintain a reserve to provide emergency assistance when new funds are allocated.
