Two Drones Carrying Cigarettes Fly From Belarus to Lithuania

Lithuanian border guards intercepted two drones carrying contraband cigarettes that had flown in from Belarus overnight from October 9 to 10. The incidents occurred in the Švenčionys and Vilnius districts, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported.

On Friday night, border guards spotted a drone near the settlement of Adutiškis in the Švenčionys district. It was brought down using anti-drone equipment. In the morning, a box wrapped in plastic film was found about 400 metres from the border. Another box attached to the drone was discovered 300 metres away.

A total of 1,000 packs of Minsk City MS cigarettes bearing Belarusian excise stamps were seized. Their value is estimated at 5,510 euros.

The second drone was intercepted near the village of Šiuliai in the Vilnius district. After control of the drone was intercepted, it crashed in a forest about 500 metres from the border. A package containing 250 packs of Belarusian NZ Gold cigarettes was attached to the device.
