Romanian law enforcement authorities are investigating the suspected involvement of two Belarusian citizens and one Ukrainian citizen in a fire at an industrial site in Brasov. Investigators believe they belong to a sabotage network that planned operations in Romania and other EU countries.
According to a press release from Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), the fire occurred in September 2026 near the facilities of CARFIL SA, a subsidiary of CN ROMARM. DIICOT investigators and officers from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime documented the suspects’ activities with support from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).
Two of the suspects were located and remanded in custody in Germany. Romanian authorities say they were preparing similar operations. The statement did not specify the nationality of those detained in Germany.
On October 26, a third European Arrest Warrant was issued for a suspect whose whereabouts had been established in Poland. The press release did not report whether the suspect had been detained.
According to investigators, the suspects also planned operations against other sites in Romania and other EU member states. The investigation concerns an alleged attempt to commit acts of sabotage. Authorities are taking steps to transfer the suspects to Romania.
DIICOT, Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the SRI are continuing efforts to identify everyone involved and assess risks to strategic facilities. The statement did not disclose the suspects’ names, the alleged organizers of the network or information about any possible clients behind the operation.
