Management of troubled enterprises is taking no action to improve the situation. Belarusian Prime Minister Aliaksandr Turchyn said this at a meeting devoted to the performance of the industrial sector over the first eight months of the year.
“At our first meeting today, we will review the situation in industry. On the one hand, there appears to be positive momentum, with production volumes increasing… But the situation in some sectors and at a whole range of enterprises cannot help but raise concerns.
And the next thing is my personal impression that, at a number of enterprises, I do not see action by their management, above all, to rectify the situation. This is reflected both in work on the external front, the situation inside the country, and efforts to optimize costs,” he said, according to the government’s press service.
It was previously reported that industrial production in Belarus grew by just 0.2% in January-August. At the same time, production in Minsk declined by 4.6%.
“This is not the first time we have met here. And in February, we agreed on the principles and mechanisms of our work. If you think we are simply going to sit back and watch all this, you are mistaken,” Aliaksandr Turchyn added.
According to the government’s press service, particular attention was paid today to enterprises experiencing declines in production volumes. It was stressed that producing for stock is unacceptable.
