Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s legal adviser Leanid Marozau commented on the possibility for Belarusians to apply for Lithuanian residence permits in Armenia and Georgia, saying that this was the result of the Tsikhanouskaya Office’s work with Lithuanian partners.
“This is a concrete result of our work with Lithuanian partners. We raised the issue of allowing Belarusians in Georgia and Armenia to submit documents where they are located a long time ago. We are grateful to the Lithuanian side for hearing our arguments and finding a practical solution. For many Belarusians, this will indeed simplify the process of legalizing their status in Lithuania,” he said.
The Lithuanian Interior Ministry said the previous day that from Nov. 1, Belarusian citizens will be able to submit applications for temporary residence permits through external service provider offices in Armenia and Georgia. The decision is related to changes in migration rules, under which Belarusians could otherwise have lost the opportunity to apply for a residence permit on the basis of employment.
From the same date, applications through external service providers will no longer be accepted in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Overall, the number of countries where such offices will operate will decrease from 31 to 27.
As of Sept. 1, 47,872 Belarusian citizens held residence permits in Lithuania. More than 33,000 of them had obtained temporary residence permits on the basis of employment.
