Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with representatives of Armenian civil society and experts.
According to Tsikhanouskaya’s Office, leaders of 20 organisations and initiatives in the fields of human rights, education and expertise took part in the meeting.
During the meeting, participants discussed how to address cases where Lukashenka’s security forces abuse interstate search mechanisms. Resolving this issue would make Armenia a safe hub for Belarusian civil society, enabling meetings and events involving Belarusians. The discussion also covered cooperation between educational and cultural initiatives, joint projects in media, training and knowledge exchange among experts.
Tsikhanouskaya stressed that cooperation with Armenian civil society is necessary to preserve and strengthen friendly relations between peoples despite the tense context. The outcomes of her visit to Armenia and the nervous reaction from Minsk were also discussed.
“The events of recent days have shown that Armenia is an integral part of Europe. I dream of the day when Belarus will host such a number of European and global leaders. This is about independence, about subjectivity, about recognition.
I would like our countries to no longer live in the shadow of empires. To become part of the European family of nations. I would like our countries to elect leaders in free elections, and here I envy Armenia. I would like our peoples to be friends, to trade, to support each other, as before. And no Lukashenka will be able to destroy this. There is still much work ahead. Much struggle. But I am confident that together we will achieve freedom”, Tsikhanouskaya said.
