A refrigerated truck carrying 34 migrants was stopped in Poland. It turned out that they had previously applied for international protection in Latvia.
Polish border guards stopped the truck on a road near Poznań on September 14. They had been alerted to the possible movement of migrants by colleagues from the Podlasie Border Guard unit.
The 34 migrants were traveling in the refrigerated truck behind a special partition. They were citizens of Pakistan, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tunisia and Eritrea. They had documents confirming that they had applied for international protection in Latvia, the Polish Border Guard reports.
It should be recalled that Latvia has faced increased migration pressure on its border with Belarus since July. Dozens of migrants a day attempted to storm the Latvian border. Operation “Werewolf,” aimed at combating illegal migration, is underway in Latvia.
