Trial of Priest Parakhnevich Begins in Minsk

A trial of Catholic priest Anatol Parakhnevich, pastor of a parish in Alkovichy, Vileyka District, began in Minsk this week. The trial is being held behind closed doors, Katolik.life reports.

Parakhnevich was detained in March 2026. He has been held in a pre-trial detention center since then. In April, reports emerged that Parakhnevich had suffered a heart attack while in detention.

According to available information, the priest has been charged with “treason against the state.” Details of the charges are unknown.

It was previously reported that believers had put forward a possible reason for the priest’s detention. They believe the clergyman may have been accused of helping preserve the memory of Polish citizens who died in what is now Belarus during the first half of the 20th century.
