Warsaw Gallery Weekend, an annual showcase of contemporary art organized by leading art galleries, cultural institutions, foundations and art collectives, begins on Friday. For several days, galleries and cultural institutions across Poland will open new exhibitions and host performances, meetings with artists, discussions and special events.
Belarusian artists are also taking part in the program.
Biuro Wystaw will host an exhibition featuring Anastasia Rydlevskaya, “Modernity is Out of Date” (Współczesność jest nie na czasie). Through their works, the artists examine the discomfort and disappointment associated with modernity and try to capture the moment when a mysterious mechanism of dismantling, dislocation and return to a time that never existed is activated.
The Museum of Free Belarus will join this year’s Warsaw Gallery Weekend to present a project by Alexander Adamau, hyperMother. Shared Breathing is a continuation of his long-term project exploring what happens when a system created for our comfort and care begins to decide for itself what is best for us.
Shared Breathing evokes the space of a sanatorium of the future. Here, sound, vibrations and breathing create a shared rhythm, while visitors are invited for a while to give up the need to constantly control themselves, be productive, analyze their condition and strive to become the “best version of themselves.”
On September 18 at 2 p.m., the Museum of Free Belarus (Foksal 11) will host Alexander Adamau’s performance Preliminary Procedure: Calibration of Denial, which is also part of the official Warsaw Gallery Weekend program. It will serve as a kind of entry point into the hyperMother system and will open the museum’s exhibition program.
