A 16-year-old in Lida is suspected of stealing $17,000 from the home of a family acquaintance. He allegedly used the money to buy three motorcycles, a gaming console, collectible figurines and other items.
According to the Interior Ministry, the teenager had repeatedly visited the son of a 57-year-old Lida resident. During one visit, he noticed where the homeowner kept his savings and began taking money in small amounts. When the theft went undetected, the teenager took all the remaining banknotes. The total amount stolen was $17,000.
Investigators have opened a criminal case on suspicion of large-scale theft. The teenager faces up to 12 years in prison.
