Swedish International Liberal Centre Foundation Declared “Extremist Organisation”

Belarus’s Supreme Court, in a ruling dated April 23, declared the “Swedish International Liberal Centre Foundation” an “extremist organisation”. Information about the decision was added today to the Interior Ministry’s list of “extremist” entities.

The organisation is linked to Per Olsson, Cesar Chirino, Olga Nemanezhyna, Sandra Fors, Adina Martin, Ing-Marie Wicklund, Anders Bergheden, Indre Bulavaitė-Andrejevė. The centre’s website and its accounts on Facebook, Instagram and X have also been added to the list.

The foundation was established in the late 1980s by Sweden’s Liberal People’s Party (now the Liberal Party). Its aim is to support democracy. It cooperates with liberal parties and promotes inter-party dialogue. Strengthening the political participation of women and young people is a постоянная theme of the foundation’s work.

It should be recalled that in Belarus, extremism-related charges are used to target opponents of Lukashenka and dissent more broadly.
