The Supreme Court panel will hear an appeal today against the in-absentia conviction of Pelageya Korsakova, who was convicted under the article on “treason against the state,” the human rights center Viasna reports.
In June, the Minsk City Court sentenced 27-year-old Pelageya Korsakava in absentia to 11 years in prison. Her parents, Tatsiana and Dzmitry Korsakau, were sentenced to 12 and 14 years, respectively. The court also fined the family 50,000 rubles.
The couple were charged under articles concerning “treason against the state,” illegal handling of firearms, ammunition and explosives, as well as the illegal movement of weapons, ammunition and toxic substances across the border. Their daughter was found guilty of “treason against the state.”
Pelageya Korsakava has lived in Ukraine since 2021, where she works as a graphic designer and coordinates rapid-response volunteers who assist people affected by missile strikes.
Her parents, who previously worked at a kindergarten, were detained in September 2025. According to Pelageya, before his detention her father called her and said that he had been detained, while her mother had allegedly been hospitalized with a stroke. After that, an unidentified person demanded that the woman come to Belarus if she wanted to secure her parents’ release. It later emerged that Tatsiana Korsakava had not been hospitalized.
Pelageya Korsakava considers the charges against her family absurd and links the criminal prosecution to her living in Ukraine and maintaining contact with her parents.
