Former political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich has moved from Minsk to a village house. He said this on his Telegram channel. The move was prompted by the demolition of private homes in Loshytsa, where the politician had previously lived.
“Now, because of the demolition of Loshytsa, we have moved away from there. But, having already realized that further fighting over “my cottage” is pointless, I decided, perhaps for the first time in my life, to surrender to the inevitable.
Therefore, I admit here that I do have a “cottage”, which I recently moved into instead of the city apartment allocated to me because of the demolition of the house in Loshytsa”, he wrote, after recounting how he had been accused for years of owning a three-level cottage.
“Because living for years in a concrete prison “closet” measuring 1×3 meters, with no opportunity to see the sky even through a mesh, creates a special attitude toward things that are ordinary for other people — trees, grass, the sky outside the windows or above your head. Besides, I do not want to drag my usual “entourage” of bailiffs and various types of “law enforcement officers” into that new apartment. Maryna has had more than enough dealings with them. And the dogs need somewhere to go. It is now prohibited to keep more than two pets in city apartments. We cannot just throw the dogs and cats out into the street. So everything came together this way.
So I decided to move into what is, for now, a two-level “cottage with a fireplace” in the village. The truth is, no one had lived there for 20 years. We had to dry it out for a long time”, he said.
Mikalai Statkevich also published a photograph of the house taken in March this year.
“The photos below show the cottage as I saw it in March this year. We are now continuing to put it in order. We have already bought firewood for the winter. And the dogs are not superfluous here. It was not for nothing that, on the eve of the move, the valiant “services” carried out almost a whole special operation to steal them. And the smaller red one is a born fortifier, digging holes in which he can hide completely right before our eyes. So the number of levels in the “cottage” may grow to an unknown number. What room for imagination for the local Pinkertons!”, he wrote.
The politician also assured readers that he had not “gone underground”. Minsk is not far away, and there is regular transport service.
“If some people get the idea to repeat here the story of 2010 involving Aleh Byabenin, I publicly state for such an eventuality that I still love life, nature and my loved ones very much and cannot even imagine any reason to change my attitude toward all of this. Besides, I am used to seeing things through to the end.

It is worth recalling that the state has filed a lawsuit seeking 26 million rubles from him and other defendants in the criminal case.
