Staff of the State Control Committee (SCC), acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, discovered a cryptocurrency mining farm in an agro-town in the Homiel District.
A transformer substation had been installed on a plot of land in the agro-town, which was being used for purposes other than those for which it was designated: instead of being used for subsidiary farming, the site was being used to mine cryptocurrency.
The operation also used equipment that had not undergone the mandatory inspection by the State Energy and Gas Supervision Authority, while electricity was being paid for at subsidized rates.
The mining equipment has been disconnected. The SCC has ordered the removal of the transformer substation from the plot.
A report has been drawn up documenting unauthorized, unmetered electricity consumption. The electricity charges are being recalculated.
