St Elisabeth Monastery in Minsk has been banned from displaying weapons at events marking Victory Day. One of the organisers of the celebration, nun Marfa, said this, “Christian Vision” reports.
According to her, this year “participants portraying soldiers were only allowed to attend the event without weapons — with examples of radio equipment and clothing”.
This year’s programme still includes pro-Russian and militaristic elements: the “Immortal Regiment” march, Cossack activities, sabre-cutting training, grenade throwing and a minefield.
Since last autumn, a museum complex called “Fatherland” has been under construction at a monastery site in the village of Lysaya Hara. According to the complex’s Instagram posts, it is planned as a permanent venue for such events, the outlet notes.
St Elisabeth Monastery and its confessor, Archpriest Andrei Lemeshonak, are known for publicly supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine. The monastery has repeatedly organised events in support of Russian aggression. In recent years, nuns have been expelled from Christmas fairs in several European countries.
