Snapkou Warns Retailers And Importers Of Tighter Regulation If Prices Rise

First Deputy Prime Minister Mikalai Snapkou held another meeting with representatives of retailers and importers focused on ensuring the domestic market is adequately supplied and on the price situation.

According to the government press service, the main topics were consumer price dynamics following the lifting of price controls, the market situation, and analytical work by government agencies.

As a reminder, in July the government reduced the list of goods subject to price regulation. In August, the country recorded a slight increase in annual inflation. It rose from 4.4% to 4.5%.

“The meeting participants noted that the price situation remains stable and under control. There are no apparent grounds for retail prices to rise.

At the same time, retail chains and importers were warned that price regulation could be reinstated if signs of an unjustified increase in prices emerge or external pressures intensify,” the government press service reported.

The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade and the Ministry of Taxes and Duties were also instructed to improve the analytical system for assessing the price situation, including determining the causes and justification for increases in retail prices.
