Smolensk Region Plans to Create Electric Vehicle Taxi Fleet With Belarus

The Smolensk Region is discussing a joint project with Belarus to establish its own taxi aggregator and an electric vehicle taxi fleet. This was announced by Vasily Anokhin, governor of the Russian region, following a meeting of the economic and investment task force, which reviewed the Smolensk Region delegation’s participation in the INNOPROM international industrial exhibition in Belarus.

“Our task is to implement the agreements reached, which will contribute to the further economic development of the Smolensk Region and Belarusian regions,” Anokhin said.

According to him, trade turnover between the Smolensk Region and Belarus increased by around 11% in the first seven months of 2026.

“Cooperation has been established between the Vyazma Machine-Building Plant and Belarus’s MotoVeloZavod to produce motorcycles. Given growing demand, we agreed to increase supply volumes and ensure a stable workload for the assembly plant in the Smolensk Region,” he said.

Anokhin also noted the participation of a Belarusian company in the construction of the Podsnyezhniki–Skriporovo section of road in Smolensk.

The Russian region is also discussing the entry of new Belarusian manufacturers into the local market and the possibility of setting up a berry-processing facility.
