Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou met with the Polish foreign minister on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. He also held meetings with his counterparts from Slovakia, Iran, Tanzania, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Botswana and Sudan.
According to the Foreign Ministry’s press service, talks with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár focused on bilateral relations and “possible areas for their development under the current difficult circumstances.” The situation in the region was also discussed. The sides expressed confidence in the need to keep communication channels open to facilitate the earliest possible resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the sides discussed the schedule of upcoming visits and meetings, as well as the agenda of the joint trade and economic commission. They also stressed that there was no alternative to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in the Middle East and discussed prospects for promoting the Eurasian Charter of Multipolarity and Diversity in the 21st Century.
The meeting with Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo focused on preparations for the Tanzanian prime minister’s visit to Belarus.
Organising the visit was also the subject of talks with Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg. A high-level Mongolian delegation is expected to visit Belarus. The sides discussed holding a business forum and other events timed to coincide with the visit.
During a meeting with Nicaraguan Co-Minister of Foreign Affairs Valdrack Jaentschke, the sides discussed the situation in Central America as well as the bilateral agenda, including implementation of the decisions of the trade and economic commission.
With Botswana’s Foreign Minister Phanuel Butale, the sides discussed upcoming high-level visits. They also discussed establishing assembly plants for Belarusian machinery in Botswana and increasing the number of Botswana students studying in Belarus.
Finally, during a conversation with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohiddin Salem, the diplomats exchanged views on food security. In particular, they discussed a broad range of equipment and machinery supplies, as well as training Sudanese students in relevant fields in Belarus.
